Osteopathy for Lower Back Pain

Do you suffer from lower back pain? Would you like to move around free and easy, being able to do sports or just play with your children or grandchildren, without the fear of your lower back pain getting worse?

Joint Mobility

Your joints need to move freely and easily. If the joints get “sticky” then the muscles around it will tighten up. If a joint moves well, the muscles are able to function correctly, and stay in the ideal state of tension. Actually, there are many techniques that you can use at home to get your joints moving freely and easily. The major causes of lower back pain are eliminated simply and easily by using certain muscle techniques.

Inflammation

If your joints are tender to the touch, if your muscles are sensitive then more than likely inflammation is present. Inflammation requires treatment. This will help heal the inflamed area. If the inflammation is left too long, the area will stiffen and become slower to heal, and even scar tissue can form as a protection.

Posture

Is your posture correct? Do you stand straight? Well, don’t be alarmed. Posture is a function of lower back pain, energy levels and general health. If you are suffering from lower back pain, then your posture changes to accommodate it. If you are tired, then you slouch and have a less ideal posture. Posture IS important to help the long-term removal of lower back pain.

What is the anatomy of the lower back?

The first step to understanding the various causes of lower back pain is learning about the normal design of the tissue in this area. Important structures are in the lower back that can include the boney lumbar spine. The boney lumbar spine is designed so the vertebrae stacked together can provide a more able structure. The lumbar vertebrae stack immediately on top of the sacrum bone, in between the buttocks on each side. The sacrum meets the iliac bone of the pelvis to form the sacro-iliac joints. Most patients end up at an Osteopath with sacro-iliac misalignment, herniated discs and of course, pressure of the sciatic nerve which causes sharp pains down the leg.

Osteo-arthritis is another very common factor of back and hip pain. Most of these problems are treatable in my clinic.

Classic examples and symptoms

Do you have problems getting out of bed, straigtening up, getting out of a car, bending down to put on your socks and shoes ? Sometimes, these can be disc-related.

At my clinic, the patient is examined and assessed. Soft tissue therapy on the area together with classical Osteopathic treatment is provided which can alleviate the problems and the pain without too much effort.

Arthritic Hips

Extreme pain in both hip joints radiating down the leg and across the lower back can be helped with my specialized Osteopathic therapy which can bring instant relief. Arthritis is aggravated by certain foods. Nutritional advice will also be given for long-term relief.
